Trigon Flip
Trigon Flip is a 2D puzzle game where the player can flip triangles into empty spaces to change their colour. A set number of isosceles triangles are arranged in a grid-like pattern. By flipping triangles, the player can create different patterns and solve puzzles. Trigon Flip offers 25 unique puzzles, ranging from small to large with different ways to solve.
Behind the scenes...
Concept
Trigon Flip was originally designed as a physical wooden flip puzzle. Adapting the physical game to the digital medium proved to be beneficial as it allowed players to reset and set the board up faster, keep better track of their turns, and most importantly made the rules easier to grasp.
Roles and Responsibilities
I was given full creative control over Trigon Flip's UI Design, Sound, and Visuals. The clicks for when the triangles were flipped emulated the wooden pieces in the original physical puzzle game when the triangle piece would hit the board. The triangle would make a satisfying click noise and provided auditory feedback to signify the transitional animation ended and it was time for the player to make their next move.
Learning Outcome
Trigon Flip taught me that less is more and that sometimes simplicity is what makes a game beautiful. Not only did making simple geometric designs save me time, but it also gave Trigon Flip a unique, minimalist aesthetic that allowed the player to focus on the gameplay without any distracting elements to divert their attention.
